These are just things I write, okay? Sometimes they're profound insights or funny stories and I'm really proud of them. Other times it's mindless rhetoric that I've since completely changed my mind about and am ashamed of. But most of the time it's just words.

November

So I was seriously considering participating in National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for those of you too lazy to say all of that. And, for those of you too lazy to actually click on the link, NaNoWriMo's basic idea is to write a 50,000 word novel, start to finish, from scratch, entirely during the month of November. It's not about writing a publishible novel, or a good novel, or even a remotely adequate novel. Just a novel. Quickly.

If you were interested in the math involved, that's one-thousand six-hundred and sixty-six words per day, with four extra words each Saturday. You're not going to produce quality work at that kind of pace, but you are going to create. I really want to do it, but at the same time I have my other writing commitments. Which I've been neglecting. (Obviously.) If I'm going to set aside that much time just to write, I'd be far better served by finishing one or two of the short stories I've been slowly crafting than in a burst of frenzied free-form. No matter how cool it would be to be able to say "I damn well DID IT!" about this one. Maybe next year.

In the meantime, however, as a sort of goal to shoot for anyway I'm declaring November National pyre Updates His Webpage Month. I haven't been talking to all of you imaginary friends of mine out there very much lately, for a variety of rather lame reasons, but that's bloody well going to stop. I swear to do my damndest to post an update every single day in November. The only allowable exception is if I have to go out of town for more than one full day, because the typing monkeys get lazy when I'm not around. I realize that keeping to a regular schedule is something plently of bloggers and online cartoonists just take for granted, but when the "Recent Fun" list includes posts from June, more drastic measures are in order. So there you go, a resolution all my fans can doubt I'll keep.
