These are just things I write, okay? Sometimes they're profound insights or funny stories and I'm really proud of them. Other times it's mindless rhetoric that I've since completely changed my mind about and am ashamed of. But most of the time it's just words.

Headlights

Would one of you retards pretending to have a social conscience please tell me who came up with this idea of driving with your headlights on in the daytime to raise awareness of various issues? The first time that I heard about this kind of thing was when some people wanted all Americans to leave their headlights on for the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks (the anniversery, oddly enough, fell on September 11th this year). That one, I don't think many Americans needed the help remembering, but at the time I just thought it was a weird modern version of candlelight vigils.

Now, however, I'm hearing more and more people requesting that we drive with our headlights on for various causes. Just this morning there was a commercial with some local student group wanting everyone in the city to leave their headlights on tomorrow to raise awareness for... I honestly don't know. I think it was drunk driving, or maybe teen drug use. The fact that I actually can't remember for sure what their point was beautifully illustrates one of the flaws with this new form of activism: Headlights IN NO WAY communicate anything about what issue your trying to make people think about!! If I see somebody driving around on a perfectly bright day with their headlights on, I don't wonder what sort of socio-political statement they're trying to make. I think "What a schmuck, he left his lights on." Even if a lot of cars have their headlights on, if you haven't seen the commercial telling YOU to have your headlights on you're more likely to think it was cloudy just before you got in your car and nobody bothered to turn their lights off than you are to somehow realize the activist motivations behind it. So really, even if you've got the headlights on in the daylight on purpose, you're still a schmuck.

How about we all leave our headlights on to raise awareness of the environment? Oh yeah, because unneccessary lights WASTE ENERGY? Dumbass. If everyone in America drove with their headlights on for one entire day, then we'd be even more of a selfish leech on global energy resources than we already are. What a great country!

Why don't you people just drive around all NIGHT with your headlights OFF to raise your goddamn awareness of Traffic Accidents?
