These are just things I write, okay? Sometimes they're profound insights or funny stories and I'm really proud of them. Other times it's mindless rhetoric that I've since completely changed my mind about and am ashamed of. But most of the time it's just words.

I saw Serenity last night at midnight, of course. I got many nice comments about my cunning hat. I'm now left with the daunting task of reviewing the movie without ruining any of the awesome surprises for you, the concerned moviegoer. In the end I decided to just write the review I wanted to and take out all the spoilers. So here goes the

Spoiler-Free Serenity Review

Serenity is the follow-up movie for the TV series Firefly, which is the reason that we forgive Joss Whedon for Buffy and Angel. Imagine the American Civil War, except in space, and now it's over and we're going to hang out with some folks who fought for the South. The good guys here are not all that good. Instead they're real people who also happen to be criminals, smugglers, fugitives, and in some cases very hot. Okay, that's enough remedial for the non-fans, let's get to the movie.

Serenity lacks the horses of Firefly, but it still has the frontiersy, just off the edges of civilization feel to it anyway. Compressing the storytelling into a 2 hour movie means that some of the characters only get to focus on a more limited aspect of their personality and not much else. Mal seems darker and nastier than he did in the show, but when he [spoiler] it's almost unbelievable! A lot of us were kind of expecting [spoiler] to [spoiler] in this movie, but were really amazed when [spoiler] did. Long time fans of the character interaction between [spoiler] and [spoiler] will not be disappointed, because we finally get to see them [spoiler]! I was a little surprised that she [spoiler] his [spoiler] right in front of [spoiler] though.

Jayne has almost all of the best lines. (That part's not a spoiler because you totally knew it was going to happen.) For big mysteries, at last we learn the truth about [spoiler] and the [spoiler], but are still left in the dark about [spoiler], because [spoiler]. The parts where the [spoiler] are [spoiler] were so amazingly [spoiler], but I never would have thought Rosebud was his [spoiler]!
