These are just things I write, okay? Sometimes they're profound insights or funny stories and I'm really proud of them. Other times it's mindless rhetoric that I've since completely changed my mind about and am ashamed of. But most of the time it's just words.

Katrina

I feel like I should say something. For the most part, I'm at a loss for words. This, like any other petty concerns of mine through the last few days, seems so very unimportant. Out my door and up the street just a few short miles is the Mississippi River. Follow that south far enough and you'll find people at a loss for homes, at a loss for food, at a loss for drinkable water. The river feels like the connection for me, more than the news coverage, more than the pictures online. That water flowing between my cities will be reaching the gulf with a continuity it's easy to lose in television.

Who names these things, anyway? Are they named after individuals? Is Katrina as much of a bitch in real life as she is in the weather? Ouch.
