These are just things I write, okay? Sometimes they're profound insights or funny stories and I'm really proud of them. Other times it's mindless rhetoric that I've since completely changed my mind about and am ashamed of. But most of the time it's just words.

Futility and Fulfillment

"Probably every writer has been through the question "Do I really have anything to say?" or some variation on it. You can add "more" in the appropriate location there for people who got one book, screenplay, song, whatever completed and find themselves back at the same point. When you look at all that's already been done, it can be hard to summon up the arrogance to think you have something new and unique to add to the world, regardless of the medium for your chosen creation.

No, I'm not going through angsty writer's self-doubt (anymore than usual). I just watched a movie. Sometimes you have a piece featuring an author who is struggling with this sort of dilemma. This seems to be more prevalent in film than literature, although maybe I just don't read that sort of book so I haven't noticed. The point is, when you're watching the protagonist battle with his art, and apathy, and the futility of trying to create something worthwhile when the public seems to only want regurgitated formulas, there's something I'd like you to remember... Somebody wrote THAT.

I have to wonder about that, every time. Now maybe with the seed planted you will, too. Somebody, an author, a writer, a creator chose a sort of meta-creation. They wrote about the struggles of writing. I usually enjoy watching or reading or in whichever way being the audience for this sort of thing, but in a way it seems like a cop-out. Their idea was that it's hard to come up with ideas. They wrote about how hard it is to write something. It's an interesting way to create something, that's hopefully interesting as well.

And I just wrote about that.
