These are just things I write, okay? Sometimes they're profound insights
or funny stories and I'm really proud of them. Other times it's mindless
rhetoric that I've since completely changed my mind about and am ashamed
of. But most of the time it's just words.

All men are created women...So I was watching the FoxNews interrupt, babble, and scream at each other show, Hannity and Colmes, because Colmes's evil overlord and master Eyebrows commanded me to do so. One issue they choose to gibber about without resolution was gender neutrality in government documents. I'll quickly sum it up so we can move on to what I feel is a totally unique yet ultimately kickass solution. Does the word "men" really include males and females or not? Those in favor of leaving the Constitution how it is now say that in things like "all men are created equals" men refers to mankind or humanity, so you don't need to make it "all men and women are created equal." Assume for a moment that it does. If men includes men and women, then what just means men?
Basic math: So here's the unique idea. This is an opportunity that we really need to jump on. If we look at the words "Men" and "Women" from a language deconstruction standpoint we can see that Wo- is most likely originally a modifying prefix of Man and Men. Wo-man, Wo-men. What I propose is that we officially make Man represent anyone male or female and Men represent multiple people of either gender. That way "all men" will really include everyone that it should. BUT, if we do this we need to establish a new term to represent the gender that was previously referred to as "men." To absolutely eliminate any sort of built-in gender bias in the english language is should be a new two letter modifying prefix we can tack onto Man and Men to be the equivelent male terms of Woman and Women. This way not only do all the government documents get to become truly inclusive without changing their wording, but we can keep terms like fireman, policemen, etc. Firepeople sounds like something out of D&D.
There are 676 two-letter combinations to choose from, but we need to eliminate "Wo" and "Hu" because they're already taken. This is a truly unique opportunity for all of us __men! (You know who I mean just until we get a permanent fix) We get to pick what our gender will be called. We could come up with something really cool sounding. (I apologize for the political and societal nature of today's update. I promise to talk about monkeys for the rest of the week.) |
